Back in Business

It's been a long time over due.

Every time I come to sit down and write, it strikes me at how quickly time moves. It seems like just yesterday I wrote my first article, and was expecting our new born. Now the family is in talks about having a second, and our daughter just learnt how to bike.

I took some time away for a job that I thought would make me happy. It provided me with more money and opportunities than I've ever had before, but it made me realize something.

My career isn't the most important thing in my life, it's my family.

Not being able to spend the time together that I wanted, and being so overworked that I didn't have the patience or energy to play with my wife and daughter — left me feeling like a shell of my former self. You can only grind it out for so long until the effects start to catch up with you. Your life shouldn't revolve around your job, you're so much more than that.

Don't get me wrong, chase your career goals and shoot your shot. But make sure that you know what makes you happy and you're not chasing an arbitrery title. I'm all for making more money and providing for your family, but that provision shouldn't overshadow your reason to live.

It's much easier to preach work life balance than to actually live it, just look at me — I haven't been able to write an article on here for over a year. Although nothing has changed just yet, and I'm still driving myself into the ground at this new job, but I can feel a shift coming.

Whether this artilce was to get back into the habit or to hold myself accountable, I know that great things are coming to you, and I — as long as you truly believe it.
